Detailed information on Mies van der Rohe MR Chaise Lounge

Mies van der Rohe\'s Chaise Lounge was designed in 1931 but was not mass-produced until 1977. The technology to chrome plate such a large furniture piece did not exist.

Mies van der Rohe was a leader of the Modern Movement and is widely regarded as a master of furniture design.   Over a period of 50 years, Mies van der Rohe was responsible for many of the world’s most important designs in architecture, furniture, lighting, and modern design philosophy.  Important designs such as the Barcelona Pavilion, the Seagram Building in New York, and the Farnsworth House cemented his name as a legend of modern classic design.

Mies van der Rohe was born in 1886 in the German Rhineland.  He studied at the Domschule in Aachen from 1896 to 1899.  After leaving the school, he began working for several businessmen and architects in Aachen.  Without a formal education, he started a practical education with Paul Behrens.  With Behrens, Mies received the opportunity to work on large projects, including the Allgemeine Elektrizitats-Gesellschaft Turbine Hall and the German Embassy in St. Petersburg.
