As part of her mobility under the STUDIESDIG project, we had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Nour El Houda Chaoui, Director of the Digitalization Pole at Ibn Tofail University (Kenitra, Morocco) – a distinguished scholar and expert in digital transformation, quality assurance in higher education, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in education.
As part of her mobility, a working meeting was held with the leadership and faculty members of the Faculty of Applied Informatics and Statistics. The meeting brought together the Dean, Assoc. Prof. Alexandrina Murdzheva, the Vice Dean for Research, Assoc. Prof. Ekaterina Tosheva, Prof. Lyuben Boyanov, Chief Assist. Prof. Geno Stefanov, Chief Assist. Prof. Ivona Velkova, and Chief Assist. Prof. Ventsislava Stoyanova. The participants discussed opportunities to strengthen academic cooperation, exchanged experiences in teaching informatics, computer science, and big data, and explored prospects for future joint research initiatives.
Prof. Chaoui’s extensive experience inspired the organization of a special presentation for the academic staff of the Faculty of Applied Informatics and Statistics entitled “AI in Our Classroom: Ban It or Reinvent Teaching?”
During the presentation, Prof. Chaoui explored the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on higher education, emphasizing that the role of the lecturer is evolving from a traditional provider of knowledge to that of a mentor who guides, supports, and inspires students. She shared successful practices from Ibn Tofail University for fostering teamwork, interdisciplinary collaboration, and project-based learning through socially relevant challenges tackled by students from different academic disciplines.
The presentation attracted considerable interest among faculty members and sparked a lively discussion about the opportunities and challenges AI brings to higher education, as well as the need to rethink teaching and learning practices to prepare students for the demands of the digital era.
🤝 We sincerely thank Prof. Nour El Houda Chaoui for the inspiring visit and the valuable exchange of ideas, which contribute to strengthening international academic cooperation and advancing the objectives of the STUDIESDIG project.
